About Kids English Learning
We make one thing: an app that teaches children aged 3–8 to read English, sound by sound. No ads, no social features, no dark patterns — just a curriculum that goes in order and audio for every word in it.
Why we built it
Most “learn English” apps for young children are collections of unrelated mini-games. They are fun for a week and teach very little, because nothing builds on anything else. The apps that do teach phonics often stop at letter sounds — which is roughly the first month of a journey that takes two years.
So we built the whole path: 28 levels, from a single letter sound through blending, CVC words, digraphs, Magic E, vowel teams, r-controlled vowels, prefixes and suffixes, syllable division and finally the sight words that break every rule. It is the sequence a good phonics teacher would follow, in the order they would follow it.
Everything on this website comes from that same curriculum. The word lists are the exact words children meet in the app, with the same recordings.
What we believe about teaching reading
Decoding, not memorising
Children are taught to work a word out from its letters. Whole-word memorisation looks fast at five and stalls at seven, when the books get harder and the pictures stop giving the answer away.
Strict order, no gaps
Every level rests on the one before it. Two sounds before three. Short vowels before long. A child who is stuck has almost always skipped a step, so the path never lets them.
Honest about exceptions
Where a rule genuinely holds, we teach it. Where it does not — oo, ea, ow, th — we say so plainly instead of inventing one. A child taught a false rule concludes they are bad at reading when it fails.
Every word recorded
2,009 clips, spoken by a person, not synthesised. Children need to hear the difference between /e/ and /i/ from a real mouth, and so do the parents helping them.
Safe by design
The app is used by children, often unsupervised for ten minutes at a time. So it has no advertising, no chat, no user-generated content and no external links a child could wander through. Progress is stored on the device. Account creation and purchases sit behind a parental gate.
