Sight Words List — 30 Heart Words (with Audio)
Sight words are common words that break the rules — the, was, said, friend. They cannot be fully sounded out, so part of each has to be recognised on sight. Many teachers now call them heart words: you learn the odd part by heart.

Teaching tip
Do not treat the whole word as unreadable. In said the s and d are perfectly regular — only the ai is odd, and that is the part highlighted here. Mark just that bit; the rest can still be decoded. It turns 30 impossible words into 30 words with one tricky letter each.
