Level 19 of 28
Soft C and Soft G Words List
c and g each have two sounds. Before e, i or y they usually go soft — c says /s/ as in city, g says /j/ as in giant. Everywhere else they stay hard, as in cat and got.

Teaching tip
The soft-c rule is highly reliable. The soft-g rule is not — get, give and girl all break it, so teach those as exceptions from the start rather than letting them surprise your child later.
