-TION or -SION? Which Ending to Use
These endings appear all over longer words. They sound the same, so the choice comes from the word they are built on.
The rule
-TION is the usual champion… -SION comes from S and D families!
Both endings say /shun/.
• Most words pick -tion (action, direction).
• Words from a root ending in s or d — discuss→discussion, divide→division — pick -sion.
